People use many ways to remind themselves of appointments and what they need to do for the day. Often our days begin with an alarm, reminding us to rise up and begin the day. There are alarms to take medications, meet friends and to get to the important meetings.
I have daily reminders, they are the smiles of the students and the laughter you can hear in the halls. They remind me of why sometimes I am so tired I can’t speak or why I am up at 2 o’clock in the morning writing emails. They remind me of the value of doing what I do. When I see a student self identify as an artist or glow after performing, I know that every act of moving the organization forward is returned by the confidence and growth of the students. Today, I am reminded that much of my pay is in smiles and joy, which means my life is all the more richer.
