Meg Johnson

Meg Johnson (She/They) is a multidisciplinary artist, passionate educator, and poet whose personal work explores themes of personal narrative, mental health, social justice, and other themes of activism. Meg was born in Grand Rapids Michigan and spent their childhood growing up along the coast of West Michigan.They have completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Art Education at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), where their academic journey has been marked by a blend of rigorous artistic practice and a commitment to innovative teaching methodologies. Their work and teaching practice are deeply informed by their belief in the transformative power of art, aiming to inspire change and foster a more just and compassionate world.

Meg brings a broad skill set to their artistic and educational endeavors, including extensive knowledge in screen printing, relief printing, various painting techniques, and hyper-realistic colored pencil manipulation. Meg has had the privilege of participating in a diverse range of exhibitions at Peoples Cider Co in Grand Rapids, MI, Heaven Gallery ChicagoWoman Made Gallery in Chicago, and Cocoon Art Space in Grand Rapids

Meg’s commitment to education and community extends beyond the classroom, as they have co-led initiatives such as the Re-Imagine Plastics Action Pod with Greenpeace USA and the SAIC Art Education Student Association. They have also participated in discussions on post-pandemic trauma and SEL standards with the Association of Independent Colleges of Art & Design (AICAD).

In their free time, Meg practices yoga, hikes, camps, and creates their own personal body of artwork. These activities not only provide balance and inspiration but also deepen their connection to the natural world, which often influences their creative and educational work.
